You may know Tim Turner as the Grizzlies #7, with “in the gym” range but there is more to him than just his basketball genius.
Tim is a local boy from Brooke Point High School, where he was an all region athlete in basketball and football. After high school, he attended Washington Adventist University and then Davis & Elkins College. At Davis & Elkins, Turner was a star on, and off, the court. Along with earning his diploma, Tim was a 2,000 point scorer on the hardwood. His basketball success did not go unnoticed; he received opportunities to work out with three D-League NBA affiliates: Texas Legends (Dallas Mavericks), Idaho Stampede (Utah Jazz), and the Reno Bighorns (Sacramento Kings).
After playing in California, Tim moved all the way across the country to find his home in Grizzly Nation. Tim takes pride in the Grizzlies community involvement, stating, “Anything I can do to have a positive effect on a life and to encourage a dream through basketball, or whatever it may be, is everything to me.” Tims advice to any future Grizzly is “work or get worked” and this shows in his game.Outside of the Grizzlies, Tim continues to give back to the community through coaching and teaching future ballers the “mamba mentality.”
Off the court Tim is compared to just about any celebrity with dreads locks; Richard Sherman, Whoopie Goldberg, or Wake Flaka Flame. Tim isn’t much into celebrities but he does have a few things in common with Carmelo Anthony; Immense work ethic, expert shooting skills , and some love for Lala Anthony.
Catch Timmy Turner, and the rest of the Grizzlies, this Saturday, February 2nd as they host the Perseverance Panthers @ Chancellor High School. Doors open at 6, tip off at 7!
